Wulensi : Fear & Panic In Gimam Over The Arrest Of 3 People in Ponaayili.

Residents of Gimam-Ponaayili have threatened to attack the people of Gimam after three (3) of their members were arrested by the military. The arrestees were suspected to have been behind the burning down of an electric pole belonging to the Gimam Community.

The incident which happened on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at exactly 6:30AM created some tension among the two communities.

Gimam & Gimam-Ponaayili are neighbouring communities ruled by one Assembly Member. Gimam is a whole BIG community occupied by the Nawuli tribe, that has been with electricity, for several years. Whilst Gimam-Ponaayili is a small community under Gimam, mainly occupied by the Konkomba tribe, that has been without electricity for same years. Both communities are under the Nanumba South District.

The Konkombas claimed to have written several letters to stakeholders seeking for solution to their Lighting System but received no answers. They felt disappointed & deserted. They felt they couldn't received equal treatment compared to their counterparts, hence plotted a purported plan!!! They decided to  burn down various electric poles belonging to the Gimam community.

Confirming the incident via phone call to Nanung Media, Mr. Solomon Azumah, the Assembly man disclosed that, a total number of seven (7) different electric poles have been burnt since 2015 till now. 'These electric poles are normally set up with firewoods & not through bushfires.'

"The whole incident occurred after our transformer got spoiled. But through our lobbying we got a new one altogether. The Ponaayili members started blaming me as their biggest reason they couldn't have access to electricity. After our transformer got fixed within some few days, Ponaayili residents on Thursday, went & burnt it completely." Mr. Azumah narrated.

The military, based on intelligence, arrested three (3) of Gimam-Ponaayili members. This compelled them to issue threats of possible attacks against the Gimam community should the military fail to release those arrestees.
