Rising Armed Robbery Attacks on the Wulensi–Gbungbaliga Road: A Call for Urgent Action

The people of Wulensi and Gbungbaliga are living in fear following a series of armed robbery attacks along the Wulensi–Gbungbaliga road in the Nanumba South District. In just a few weeks, this stretch of road has witnessed four separate robbery incidents, the most recent of which occurred last night.

According to residents and regular users of the road, these attacks usually happen at night and in the early hours of Damanko market days, targeting traders, drivers, students, and farmers who travel to and from market centers. Victims have lost cash, mobile phones, farm produce, and other valuable items.

"What used to be a peaceful and lively route connecting our communities has now become a zone of fear and anxiety. “Thank God no life has been lost yet, and we pray we never get there,” one resident said with deep concern"

As concerned citizens, they are appealing to the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Nanumba South, the District Police Commander, and all relevant security agencies to take immediate steps to secure the road and protect lives.

Their proposed Urgent Measures, Establish a police checkpoint along the Wulensi–Gbungbaliga road, Support the creation of a lawful community taskforce under police guidance, Encourage regular community–police engagement for early warning and rapid response and others

"This is not a political plea but a community cry for protection and peace. We believe safety is the foundation for growth and development, and our people deserve to travel without fear. We, the residents and users of the road, stand ready to cooperate with the authorities and volunteer in any lawful initiative that will help restore safety on this important route. Together, we can make Wulensi and its surrounding communities safe again for traders, travelers, and families"- Residents react
