The Regent of the Nanung Traditional Area, Nyelinboligu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, has strongly endorsed COCOBOD’s renewed drive to expand cocoa cultivation into the Nanung enclave, describing the initiative as timely and economically transformative.
This follows after a high-level team from COCOBOD paid a courtesy call on the Regent, during which they briefed him on ongoing assessments and plans to support commercial cocoa production in the area. The visit highlighted the institution’s growing interest in exploring new cocoa frontiers across northern Ghana.
The Regent noted that Nanung is endowed with vast and highly fertile land, capable of sustaining large-scale cocoa cultivation if the project is fully scaled up. He added that farmers in the municipality have long demonstrated strong agricultural capacity, making the area a suitable hub for cocoa investment.
As further evidence of the crop’s potential, the team observed a thriving cocoa plantation at Salnayili in the Nanumba North Municipality, a practical demonstration that cocoa can flourish under local conditions. This successful farm served as a key reference point in COCOBOD’s decision to consider commercial production in the area.
Nyelinboligu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana emphasized that expanding cocoa production will create jobs, improve household income, and boost economic activities across Nanung. He assured COCOBOD of the traditional authority’s full support and encouraged farmers to embrace the opportunity, noting that it could mark a new era of prosperity for the region.
