The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Tatale-Sanguli District, Hon. Mary Tagba, has ordered the immediate suspension of construction works on the Nachamba No. 2 Bridge after discovering significant deviations from the approved contract specifications.
During a routine inspection visit to the project site, Hon. Tagba observed that the contractor had altered key aspects of the approved design, including reducing the bridge's approved length in an apparent attempt to expedite completion. She also raised concerns about the quality of materials being used for the project.
According to the DCE, the concrete mix appeared to contain inadequate cement, while the aggregate being used did not meet the required construction standards. She described the situation as unacceptable and warned against compromising quality at the expense of public safety and value for money.
Hon. Tagba expressed dissatisfaction with the contractor's approach, stressing that government-funded projects must be executed according to approved specifications to ensure durability and safety for the communities they serve.
She further cautioned contractors against engaging in substandard work that could tarnish the image of the government and lead to the waste of public resources. The DCE emphasized that payments for the project would be made strictly in accordance with the contract terms and only after satisfactory compliance with all engineering requirements.
To ensure accountability and quality assurance, Hon. Tagba announced that the District Engineers would be dispatched to the site to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the work undertaken so far. The technical team is expected to verify compliance with the approved design and provide recommendations before construction can resume.
The intervention reflects the District Assembly's commitment to ensuring that public infrastructure projects are delivered to the highest standards, safeguarding both public funds and the welfare of residents who will depend on the bridge for transportation and economic activities.
