Mr. Martin Maakumuba, the Eastern Corridor General Manager for MTN Ghana issued a stern warning to MTN retailers to desist from tasking consumers with extra charges when selling credit to customers.
Speaking on 'Brunch Time' within the studio of Bead FM on Tuesday February 3, 2022 with Mr. Mohammed Mubarak : the General Manager stated that, they are some criminal charges that may befall a retailer should he/she be reported to our offices.
"Am urging all customers to kindly report retailers who are fond of selling credit transfers that goes for 90 pesewas at a cost of GHc1. Is purely criminal, illegal & should be avoided." Mr. Maakumuba expressed.
Elaborating more about MTN mobile money system, Mr. Benjamin, the Eastern Corridor Data Controller to MTN Ghana, emphatically stated that, the two varieties of sim cards which are mostly the Agent & Merchant sim cards should never be sold at a fee. "The cards are always free just that with some requirements."
The Data Controller appealed to residents to humbly report criminal related issues of merchant sim businesses to their offices.
MTN Ghana the leading provider of mobile telecommunication services has over 17.83 million subscribers with a market share of approximately 55.09% as at December 2017.
