Wulensi: Joint Monitoring Team Led by DCE visits SIGRA project sites in Wulensi And Nakpayili

A joint monitoring team made up of members from the Regional Technical Committee and national-level stakeholders, including representatives from Cowater, the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has paid a working visit to the Strengthening in Gender-Responsive Climate Adaptation (SIGRA) project sites in Wulensi and Nakpayili, located in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nanumba South, who also serves as the Central Government’s representative, Hon. Abdul Rashid Musah, joined the team earlier this morning to inspect ongoing activities under the SIGRA project.

Funded by the Government of Canada, SIGRA aims to improve the resilience of Ghanaians by supporting inclusive and gender-responsive climate adaptation initiatives. The project promotes transparency, accountability, and collaboration between women-led civil society organizations (CSOs) and government institutions at all levels in planning, implementing, and reporting on climate adaptation investments.

Currently, SIGRA is being implemented in five districts across two regions in Ghana—two districts in the Volta Region and three in the Northern Region. In the Northern Region, the beneficiary districts include Nanumba South, Mion, and Kumbungu.

In Nanumba South, SIGRA’s main focus is on dry season vegetable cultivation and climate change resilience strategies. The initiative targets vulnerable women, providing them with both sustainable sources of income and opportunities for empowerment. For the people of Wulensi and Nakpayili, the project is not only enhancing food production but also serving as a vital source of employment and livelihood support.
