The Nakpayili Community Day Senior High School in the Nanumba South District is one step closer to opening its doors, as a high-powered delegation completed the final inspection, paving the way for the school to begin operation in the 2025/2026 academic year.
This long-anticipated development is a major victory for the people of Nakpayili, Nanung, and surrounding communities who have long yearned for better access to secondary education. With the infrastructure fully in place, residents have expressed excitement and hope, anticipating increased student enrollment, improved academic performance, local job creation, and greater development across the district.
The school is fully equipped with 24 spacious classrooms, four science laboratories (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and General Science), a dining hall, conference hall, library, a headteacher’s office, three assistant headteachers’ offices, and twelve administrative offices. The quality of the infrastructure reflects a strong commitment to delivering a conducive learning environment.
As part of the final consultation and planning, the District Chief Executive proposed three operational directions for the school: transforming it into an all-girls school, establishing it as a Senior High Technical (SHSTech) School, or designating it as a program-biased school with a narrow academic focus. After stakeholder deliberations, the SHSTech option was the most widely accepted and recommended. This approach will combine science, business, and technical programs, providing a more inclusive and practical learning experience for students and aligning with national goals for skill development and employment.
The District Chief Executive for Nanumba South, Hon. Abdul Rashid Musah, has officially written to the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, to request approval for the school’s operation. Following the final inspection, attention now turns to the Ministry of Education to finalize the accreditation process. Once approval is granted, admissions and staffing are expected to begin before the start of the 2025/2026 academic year.
The final inspection was conducted on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. The delegation included Hon. Abdul Rashid Musah, the District Chief Executive; Chief Alhaji Sofo Azorka, contractor and NDC National Vice Chairman; Mr. Adjei Mensah, the Zonal Consultant for Government Projects; the Zonal Coordinator and his team; Constituency Executives; Mr. Muniru, Vice Chairman of the Nanumba Youth Association (NAYA); Hon. Abdul Wahab, Assembly Member for Nakpayili; Hon. Iddrisu, Assembly Member for Binda; Mr. Abdul Manan Ziblim, District Environmental Health Officer; representatives from the Nakpayili Chief’s Palace; the Nakpayili Development Forum (NDF); and the NDC Youth Wing, Nakpayili Branch. Their visit marked the readiness to handover of the school project from the contractor to the Nanumba South District Assembly.
In preparation for full operations, the Ministry has requested that an acting Headmaster be appointed to begin all necessary administrative work ahead of the school's opening. Furthermore, the contractor, Chief Alhaji Sofo Azorka, assured stakeholders that dormitory facilities will be added to the school, converting it into a boarding school to better serve students from distant communities.
It is worth noting that much of this momentum was sparked by the persistent advocacy of the Nakpayili Development Forum (NDF) and Nanumba Youth Association (NAYA). Their efforts have played a critical role in mobilizing support, engaging traditional leaders, and drawing the attention of government authorities to ensure the dream of secondary education becomes a reality for Nakpayili and its neighboring communities.
